The Tokyo International Viola Competition is the first international competition in Japan exclusively for the viola.The competition is held every three years as part of Viola Space, a viola festivalfounded in 1992 through the initiative of internationally distinguished violist Nobuko Imai, and dedicated to “celebrating the viola, introducing outstanding works and new works for viola, andpromoting young artists”.Winners of the Competition will be engaged to appear at Viola Space the following year or later.In addition to the competition rounds,the International Viola Competition will host workshops in association withViola Space and concerts by jury members, advisors, and winners, thereby continuing to explore the diverse potential of the viola.
